Mountain Ash Guitar

Built around the way you play.

Mountain Ash Guitar specializes in custom builds — handmade instruments designed around the player. We work with you from wood selection through final finishing, on a build cadence that respects the materials.

Many builds use locally-sourced and salvaged tonewoods from around the Northwest — character with provenance, not catalogue lumber.

What we do

The work, specifically.

  • Player-led design — body, neck, scale length, tuning, electronics
  • Locally-sourced and salvaged tonewoods where it makes sense
  • Hand-shaped necks fit to the player
  • Pickup selection and wiring designed for the build
  • Finishing options from open-pore oil to traditional lacquer
  • Build slots are limited — small batches, properly cared for
What to expect

No surprises.

How we work

The workshop, plainly.

A custom build is a long conversation. We start with how you actually play — the music, the feel you reach for, the instruments you've loved and the ones that fought you. From there we choose woods, scale, neck shape, and electronics together. Nothing about the build is incidental.

Mountain Ash Guitar lives inside Idaho Music Co., which means a custom build isn't just a one-time hand-off — setups, adjustments, and follow-up work happen at the same bench that shaped the instrument. The shop is the workshop.

Thinking about a custom?

We take a small number of builds at a time. The first conversation is free and unhurried — bring the music you love, sketches if you have them, or just questions.
